Welcome to Literacy Leap

The Science of Reading

Rooted in the Orton-Gillingham approach.

The Orton-Gillingham (OG) approach is widely recognized as a gold standard in structured literacy instruction, proven effective for all types of learners, including students with dyslexia and other reading difficulties. Literacy Leap builds every lesson around Orton-Gillingham's core principles, making that structure accessible to any staff member — no specialized training required.

Diagnostic

The initial assessment pinpoints each student's specific skill gaps and strengths.

Prescriptive

Assessment results automatically build an individualized learning path for each student.

Structured

Sessions follow a predictable routine of activities that each take just a few minutes.

Alphabetic / Phonetic

Lessons focus on systematic letter-sound relationships, with decodable stories built only from patterns already learned.

Sequential

Skills build from simple to complex, each one grounded in what's already mastered.

Cumulative

Every lesson reviews past skills while introducing new ones.

Repetitive

Stories, activities, and games give students multiple chances to practice and retain each skill.

Synthetic / Analytic

Every lesson pairs decoding with spelling and writing for the same phonics skill.

Multi-Sensory

Built-in training videos teach staff to blend visual, auditory, and kinesthetic methods in their sessions.

Cognitive

Interest-based story topics keep students engaged while connecting phonics to meaningful content.

Common Questions

Questions from schools & districts

Yes. Literacy Leap is built to align with the Orton-Gillingham method, a structured approach to literacy instruction that decades of research have shown to be highly effective, including for students with dyslexia and other reading difficulties. The platform was designed by an experienced public school reading interventionist and OG trainer.

Literacy Leap follows a scope and sequence of 47 phonics skills, spanning from CVC words through basic morphology like prefixes and suffixes, ordered similarly to many prevailing reading curricula. Direct instruction stays focused on skills a student hasn't yet mastered, while mastered skills continue showing up in decodable texts and drills for reinforcement. This makes Literacy Leap a strong fit for Tier 2 or Tier 3 intervention alongside your core reading curriculum.

Literacy Leap is built around skill level rather than grade level, covering the foundational reading skills typically taught in grades K-3. Because it's skill-based, it also works well for older students who are still developing these foundational skills, making it a strong fit for intervention programs serving a range of grades.

Very little. Every lesson includes a built-in teaching script, video guidance, and accurate audio pronunciations of each phonics skill, so paraprofessionals and aides can lead sessions confidently from day one. Staff are ready to run their first session after a short walkthrough of the platform.

A staff member sits one-on-one or with a small group of students and leads a 30-minute session using the built-in script and guided activities. Sessions typically run 2-3 times a week as part of your intervention block, with each student working through lessons personalized to their current skill level.

Literacy Leap uses a criterion-referenced decoding assessment, where students read a series of real words and nonsense words aloud while a staff member marks each one correct or incorrect directly in the platform. The results pinpoint exactly which phonics skills a student has mastered and which need work, and immediately build a personalized learning path targeted to their specific gaps.

The admin dashboard lets you see student-by-student learning progress, as well as run reports on how students are performing across your school and district. You'll see insights like skills mastered, progress along the learning sequence, and time spent per student. This makes it easy to pull what you need for RTI/MTSS records, team meetings, or sharing progress with families.

Literacy Leap is priced around your intervention capacity, not per student. As students complete their path and move on, that spot opens up for the next student at no extra cost, so pricing reflects how many students you can actively serve at once, not how many you'll serve over the full year. Reach out and we can find the right fit for your school or district.

Yes. We offer the opportunity to pilot Literacy Leap on a limited-term basis, with no minimum number of instructor accounts required, before committing to a full annual rollout. It's a great way to see the program in action with your own students and staff before scaling school-wide or district-wide.

Students don't have their own logins to Literacy Leap. Instructors set up and manage individual student profiles under their own account, and students never use the platform unsupervised. They work directly alongside an instructor during every session. All data entered into the platform is encrypted in transit and at rest. We know schools hold student data privacy to a high standard, and we're happy to walk through our practices in detail with your team.
